So, Ive decided to blog...... Today was the first "real day" of our vacation. We took the week off to have some quality time. Kenny still has school in the morning, but we have to whole rest of the day off together.

My adventure for the week is painting. We have lived in our house for almost a year now and I am so bored with the blahhhh walls. When you build a house, they give you a pallet of about 10 very neutral colors to pick from, and from that, you have to pick one for the whole house. Now, I bet I could have paid an arm and a leg for all of the rooms to be painted different colors, but whats the fun in that? Plus, we didn't have all of the furniture for the house 6 months before we moved in, which is typically when you pick the paint.... so here I am, 1 year later, furniture in tact, ready to paint! The wall color I have is a flat khaki color- and i HATE IT! Its good because it goes with EVERYTHING, but what I hate the most is the fact that you cant even touch it without leaving a mark. Mr.Clean Magic Erasers have been my best friend this past year- I have used more of those suckers than you can imagine! I'm just ready for a semi-gloss paint that wont smudge!

I love the color burnt orange..... now I know that is almost against the rules, seeing as I went to Texas Tech, not TU, but I love the color for home decor. I had really wanted to paint the spare bedroom that color, but Kenny wouldn't let me 6 months ago, so I opted for a burnt orange comforter on the bed, just to tame my desire for a few months! I feel like that room needs "chair rail molding," and then maybe I can paint the top half burnt orange..... This is the spare room as it is now, but hopefull by the end of the week, it will have a complete makeover!

I don't want burnt orange all over, but maybe in the spare bedroom, and then the master room. I have picked out a Sherwin Williams color called "Copper Mountain" that I love. Its not too dark, not too light, but just perfect. We have a large black leather headboard in our room and black side tables and dresser, but we also have khaki and brown accents. When I envision it in my head, it all goes well... but I guess the true test is when its on the walls! Here is a picture of the master bedroom and copper mountain!

Though its not the best picture, you can kind of get an idea...... This picture does the room no justice. It has really cool symmetry and is a lot bigger in person. I think I'm 96% sold on the orange idea. I may start tomorrow!
Now, for the rest of the house.... Kenny had suggested a red-ish color for the dining room, which i immediately shot down, then talking to my sister last night, she suggested the same thing. I figure I would consider it since 2 people, who have seen/ live in the house, suggested it. I think I may be sold! Not RED-RED, but like my sister described, a darker cranberry color. We found another color at Sherwin Williams that looked neat....... This room has the potential to make such a statement, not only for when you first walk into my house, but if I have the windows open and you are driving by, its the only thing you see! You cant see from this pic below, but I have a huge window on the left side that is open to the front of the house. The color looks more rustic on the computer but it more cranberry in real life!

I love my dining room , even though we never use it! Kenny and I put a lot of work into decorating it and I love the way it turned out!
As for the living room, where I spend the most time, I was thinking a warm color- something in the brown family. I have dark wood floors in there, khaki furniture, and a really big iron work piece above the couch. I love my living room, and I want to find a nice, warm, inviting color. Something between a dark khaki and light brown...... I will just have to play around with some of the samples I got today from Lowes and Sherwin Williams.......

I obviously don't want anything too dark, but I don't want it to be so light that it makes no difference! I think that medium olive-y green color above, called Thatch Brown may look kinda fun..?? Something to offset all of the brown and khaki..... These are times I wish I knew an interior decorator in town!
I think I will leave my kitchen.... We have such pretty cabinets, tile, counter tops and tile back splash, that I don't want a striking color to take away from that. Now, it I could only decide on the other 2 bedrooms and bathroom in my house, I can go buy paint!! any suggestions? ILL TAKE 'EM! That's all for now! I guess Ill go and tape these swatches on the wall and stare at them for a minute before I make my decision!
